About

An excellent landscape beauty and a hardy tree that can grow and thrive in a variety of conditions. The Kousa Dogwood is a favorite in many yards and gardens as it's a smaller tree that only grows to 15-25' in height at maturity. This special tree also adds vibrant beauty to your landscape year-round. In the springtime, its stunning star-like white blooms appear, then in the Summer months, its layered canopy of branches makes it a great shade tree, in the Fall bright red colors appear, and in the Winter, its bark comes through and resembles an intricate jigsaw puzzle.

Wildlife

The seed, fruit, flowers, twigs, bark and leaves are all used as food by various animals. At least 36 species of birds, including ruffed grouse, bobwhite quail and wild turkey are known to eat the fruit. Chipmunks, foxes, squirrels, skunks, rabbits, deer, beaver, black bear plus other mammals, also eat the fruit. Foliage and twigs are browsed heavily by deer and rabbits.

Quirky Facts

The stunning white blooms that appear in the Spring add to the beauty of this special tree and are what makes it highly recognizable. These blooms are commonly mistaken for flowers, however, in fact, they are modified leaves.
